Cryptosporidium & Giardia Analysis

ALS Laboratories provides UKAS and DWTS accredited analysis for Cryptosporidium and Giardia from our Coventry and Wakefield laboratories. Due to the potential health risks associated with these organisms, results can be delivered on a range of turnaround times, with rapid reporting available for pre-booked samples.

Testing can be carried out on drinking water, surface water, recreational water, water treatment works and environmental samples such as gravel or sand. An identification service is also available to differentiate Cryptosporidium genotypes where required.

Asbestos Analysis and Management

ALS offers UKAS accredited asbestos analysis for bulk materials, soils, aggregates and dust generated from soil. Testing is carried out using stereo and polarised light microscopy by experienced analysts in accordance with recognised industry methods.

ALS offer methodologies to meet client needs for the analysis of contaminated land to building materials. Our UKAS accredited laboratory in Hawarden can provide isolation and identification of asbestos forms in bulk materials and soils including:

  • Chrysotile (white)
  • Amosite (brown)
  • Crocidolite (blue)
  • Fibrous Anthophyllite
  • Fibrous Tremolite
  • Fibrous Actinolite

ALS participates in relevant proficiency testing schemes to ensure data quality and confidence in results, supporting contaminated land investigations and construction-related assessments

TO-15 Air Testing (VOCs)

ALS provides specialist TO-15 air testing services for the analysis of volatile organic compounds (VOCs) in air. TO-15 is a widely recognised method used for vapour intrusion assessments, contaminated land investigations and air quality studies, utilising canister sampling followed by gas chromatography–mass spectrometry (GC-MS).

TO-15 testing is commonly applied to indoor air, ambient air and soil gas investigations where accurate, low-level detection of VOCs is required. ALS supports TO-15 projects through sampling guidance, canister supply, laboratory analysis and clear reporting to support risk assessment, regulatory submissions and remediation decision-making.

Pipeline and Utility Surveys

ALS provides pipeline and utility survey services to support assessment of pipes used for the distribution of water. These services help clients meet statutory obligations relating to worker safety, water quality and regulatory compliance.

Field teams provide sampling, monitoring and technical advice to developers, regulatory bodies and distributing companies, supporting desk studies, site investigations and construction planning.

BS10176 VOC Sampling Support

BS 10176 provides guidance on soil sampling techniques designed to minimise the loss of volatile organic compounds during collection and handling. ALS provides specialist support for VOC soil sampling in line with BS10176, including intact core sampling and preservation techniques.

Close coordination between field teams and laboratory staff ensures representative samples and reliable VOC data for contaminated land investigations.
